Events @ Gender Gifted Chat

May 29, 2011

2 Comments

As you may already know, Gender Gifted Chat has taken the opportunity to bring members of the chat together by hosting weekly events in the room. Promotion of the events allow us to reach out to the community to bring in new members and network with other  groups/organizations supporting the LGBT community & beyond.

The events have been taking place over the last month or so, and each event is hosted by one or more staff members. Lately, there has been some confusion about when the events are schedules, and what each event is for, so I thought I would take the chance to clear things up.

Just like regular chat hours, these events are 18+ , will be set in an environment of good manners and polite etiquette and will be all inclusive.  Here is the current schedule of events, in Central timing ( if any changes are made, I will post an update on the blog, as well as on facebook & twitter)

Monday : Free/open discussion

Tuesday : 8-10pm Cst – Ftm meet (formerly Transmeet) Before we changed the title to transmeet, one of the female members happened to show up during “FTM time” & felt unwelcome. We will not tolerate such behavior, so we changed the event title to suggest everybody was welcome. However, we changed the title back because there was some confusion between tuesday nights and Wednesdays ….This event has broken the record for most people in the room at the same time (currently 19). Recent topics have been ‘ Passing, binding, packing & general discussion of health. Links are sometimes provided in the room to help

Wednesday: 7-9pm Cst – Gurl’s Night In (formerly MtF/Ftm Social) This event was supposed to help get more Mtf’s & genetic gurls involved, but with the confusion, it wasn’t too successful. So, this is a chance to really promote the event aimed at womyn, but of course anybody 18+ & who is supportive is more then welcome to attend.

Thursday: 8-10pm Cst – DJ Night with DJGeek. Each week the Dj will host a certain theme & spin songs for the chatroom via youtube links. Requests are also generally taken throughout the evening. It’s a really fun evening for anybody who likes music & friendly conversation.

Friday: 9-11pm Cst – Comedy Night! The host will tell jokes in the room & may also provide youtube links to comedy video’s or clips. In most cases, other members in the chat will be able to share their own jokes (as long as they are appropriate). Lots of laughs to be had.

Saturday: 8-10 pmCst – Trivia Night! Join our lovely host for a really fun, interactive game of trivia, with a different theme each week. Recent themes have included paranormal trivia and movie trivia.

As you can see, there’s still plenty of free time to have open chat. If any of you have a suggestion for an event, or if you would like to host an event, please contact the owner via email, the chat director, or assistant director, to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Now that you know what’s going on & when, please help us spread the word to your friends, family & groups. You can pass along our blog link, follow us on twitter (Gender Gifted Chat), or join our facebook page for current updates, posts & general info.

Peace & love ~ Karma

Trans-wear for men

Trans-Wear

When you are a transgendered male we have to learn many things without much advice. One thing we all have to learn is how to dress well without allowing the female form to show through giving us away. I have spent a little time researching and trying different types of items that are crafted to help us males get a more “masculine” form and put our best self forward.

I would suggest any item from underworks (a> ) but I really want to focus on two items. First is a binder that I suggest to any trans-male that worries about being uncomfortable in a binder or has a chest larger than a C.

Cotton Concealer V-neck is a great binder at a low price for 32.99(up to XL 39.99 for 2xl and above) this binder supports your back while giving you a flat chest and stomach. Also to note this binder actually keeps you cool in the summer a little breeze is like AC.

The second item I would like to suggest is a compression swimsuit. Yes boys we can finally go swimming and feel like we don’t have to hide. The swimsuit comes in two different pieces first your tank and then your shorts. You can get the set for 75.00$ but you need to add 10.00$ if you need 2xl or above for the tank.

Next on our list is underwear. Yes we even have special underwear that made it so that we are not required to wear an uncomfortable harness to wear a packy.  a> is where I buy all of my underwear and I find them very comfortable as well as stylish. You can get the underwear in pretty much any style but my personal favorite is the cotton boxer briefs in the “snuggler” design.

You will notice my suggestions are from underworks.com or tranzwear.net this is because I have experienced nothing but good things from the companies where as others had left me with a lot to be desired. As I find more products that work I will continually add to the list but for now I believe these items will help many trans-males with their journey.

International Day Against Homophobia

May 17, 2011

The International Day Against Homophobia (and transphobia) campaign was launched back in 2003. Every may 17th people and communities around the globe come together to organize, educate and advocate on behalf of the LGBT population & their allies.

According to the website the goals for this campaign are to:

-promote the growth of harmonious relationships among people, regardless of their sexual orientation;

-further the inclusion of homosexual persons in society

-encourage citizens to understand sexual diversity;

-put an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation in keeping with the charters of rights and freedoms;

-give rise to a general openmindedness towards diversity, and other related values in our society;

-show the devastating effects of homophobia;

-propose and put in place concrete means to fight homophobia;

-induce all sympathizers to organize activities aimed at fighting homophobia;

-set up a consultation process among its partners;

-converge all anti-homophobia activities on a single day;

-put together an organizational structure capable of insuring the survival and recurrence of the event.

For me it’s a time to remember our struggles, hardships and loss along the way; but to also celebrate our triumphs, victories and progression toward a better future. Usually every May 17th I’m found sharing stories with other members of the LGBT community, having a BBQ and playing music. It’s a day to admire diversity and to help others recognize that we’re people and we have rights. It’s a call to end further oppression.

Whatever you’re doing today, enjoy it. Take a moment to remember how we got here and where we can go if we continue to come together. Let’s not just make it about one day, but rather a movement to shape history.

As always, peace & solidarity,  Karma

Just another introduction; or is it?

I think the hardest part of any social scene for me is the introduction.; especially when I have to put it down in words. I’m not a lover of labels and as a matter of fact, I consider myself ’ self made’  because I tend to ignore the conventional beauty standards and gender stereotypes.  So, who am I? Why am I blogging? My name is Karma, I’m a queer genetic feminista (which doesn’t automatically translate to feminine.) I enjoy activism, large quantities of coffee, cheese, gender neutral clothing,cats, coloring, puddle jumping and conversation of environmental/social justice issues. I tend to keep to myself and oh yeah, I’m a musician/struggling artist.

I happened to be introduced to Gender Gifted Chat by my amazingly loving and supportive partner (who happens to now be the chat director). I’m not a lover of chats, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. What I found was beyond what I would have ever imagined. A community of fun, loving, supportive people – an inclusive positive, safe space for gender gifted/ LGBT people and their supporters. I’ve never seen an online space so committed to not only the cause, but to each other and their “home”.

I decided to join their online community and blog as a way to share my experiences not only as the person I described above, but as the former partner of a transman, and the current partner of a genderqueer/non op transguy. I want to let people know that it’s possible to maintain your own sexual/gender identity seperate from your partner. I still identify as gay, even though I’m dating somebody who doesn’t identify as female. I do however, get to transform along with him to become a more educated person in regard to gender identity issues. To be a part of the gender gifted community (the good with the bad) is such a beuatiful thing. I know not everybody feels the same, but this is my motivation for blogging.

Peace, Love & Solidarity~~ Karma
